First off, hello. I'm Robert Irish, but more commonly known as 'Bob.' Robert is the name I prefer online and in my public writing.
So, Robert, why are you blogging in 2019?
Great question! I've got something to say and ideas to share, gosh darn it. Honestly, I've had many attempts at blogging. Let's see...there was the family website that I redesigned and relaunched several times in the early 2000s. Then I started a Pixar blog around 2007 that lived for a year or so. Then I started and stopped a few more after that.
BUT, I'm at the point in my life and career that I have too much to say and do to leave the airwaves silent any longer.
Also, there's something about blogging that's authentic and real. Its slower pace and open-ended format allow for more words and time for those words to sink in. When I read a blog post or a news article, I'm there to take it in and let the author break down ideas and facts for me. Unlike the fast and fleeting world of social media, the connection is a lot more real with a blog. Don't you agree?
Great, but what are you going to blog about?
If you've read my last couple of posts, then you've gotten a taste of the kinds of things I like to talk about. I talk about what I know and what intrigues me. For years, my time has been consumed by various types of digital design, user experience, marketing, and branding. So I'll be talking about those things in what I hope will be exciting ways.
I'm not sure where it will lead. I have several projects going at once and I might want to blog about the status of those. For example, I'm writing and illustrating a young reader's novel. If I would stop spending my time setting up a blog or any of the hundred other things I do, I might have more time to get back to it :)
We're glad you're back to blogging, but where have you been?
Aside from the many other side projects I alluded to earlier, I've been working at Scentsy's home office in Meridian, Idaho for the past 20ish months. I was hired as a User Experience Designer, but have recently transitioned to the marketing team as a Digitial and Marketing Content Specialist. This means I get the fun job to help tell brand and product stories through marketing content. If you don't know what Scentsy is, we are a direct sales fragrance company. We work with thousands of independent consultants throughout the world providing scented products for homes including wax and warmers, oil diffusers, laundry products, cleaning products, pet products, body products, and kids plush toys.
Before Scentsy, I was at Picaboo.com for 5 years as a User Experience Designer where I helped to design online apps for DIY photo books and other photo products.
Let's do this!
